Dog Training Built By You

At Onyx, we look at you and your dog as a TEAM. With that in mind, we know that no two handler/dog teams are exactly alike. So, why in the world would we treat them as such with one-size-fits-all packages? The short answer is, we wouldn’t.

Specializing in puppy training, reactivity, fear/anxiety, rescue rehabilitation, and obedience, Onyx K9 Training aims to build custom packages built to suit your team’s specific needs. You’ll never pay for training you don’t need, and you will have our support every step of the way in your training journey- that’s a promise!

Board & train

What is a Board & Train?

Your dog spends a few weeks with their trainer and comes home brand new. Board & Trains consist of specialized 1-on-1 training for your dog packed with field trips, socialization sessions, obedience sessions, and more! Board & Training offers more extensive personalized training while providing your dog with the ultimate training and boarding experience.

How long will my dog be away?

Board & Train packages are custom built for you and your dog depending on factors such as budget, timeframe, prior training, behavior issues, and training goals. We aim to send your dog home on the weekends so you have an opportunity to practice before their final go-home.

What will my dog learn?

Curriculum depends on your dog’s needs and your training goals. EVERY dog will leave with the following skills:

  • Ability to go ANYWHERE and ignore distractions, keeping their focus on their handler.
  • Calmer, more confident demeanor achieved through science based behavior modification.
  • Crate manners
  • Door manners
  • House manners
  • Obedience: Heel/loose leash walking, sit, down, place, come with the ability to hold all commands through any level of distraction.

What will I learn?

Here at Onyx, Board & Trains do NOT mean that you are left in the dark on your dog’s training, or that you don’t learn as much from the process.

You will be by your dog’s side through every step of the training process via daily video and phone updates.

We will meet for weekly training sessions to catch you up on your dog’s new knowledge and provide you with the tools and education to maintain the training at home.

The final go-home session is a jam-packed learning experience for you as a handler.

Every package comes with lifetime support to maintain your dog’s training.

Where will my dog stay?

Your dog will become a part of your trainer’s family at their private residence during their stay. Movie nights, couch cuddles, and playtime are a must!

Your dog will nap and sleep in our state of the art kennels located right inside your trainer’s home.

How do I get started?

Every Board and Train begins with a thorough consultation with your trainer.

Day train

What is a Day Train?

Your dog spends the day with their trainer and comes home each day with new knowledge. Day trains consist of specialized 1-on-1 training for your dog packed with field trips, socialization sessions, obedience sessions, and more! You will meet with your trainer for drop-off in the morning, and then receive a brief go-home session in the evening covering what your dog learned and how to reinforce it at home.

What will my dog learn?

Before every day train, you will discuss training goals for the day with your trainer. Common daily goals can include:

  • A new obedience command
  • Bettering current commands
  • Socialization field trips
  • Loose leash walking
  • Crate manners
  • Training tool conditioning

What will I learn?

You will meet with your trainer during pickup at the end of every Day Train to discuss what your dog learned and how to reinforce the training at home.

How often will my dog come to Day Training?

Frequency of day training is reliant on client preference and desired training goals. Normally, dogs attend Day Training one or two days a week for a period of up to a few months, until training goals are achieved.

Some clients choose to send their dogs to day trains just for fun! It is a fun, enriching experience even for dogs that have met their training goals.

Private lessons

Private lesson puppy Stormy learning to remain calm while greeting strangers.

In Home Lessons

Most lesson packages begin in home, where your trainer comes to you to lay down foundational training and build your dog/handler relationship before adding in all of the complex variables of training in public spaces.

Private Public Lessons

Your trainer will meet you at a designated location such as Downtown Greenville or Unity park to build neutrality to distractions and transfer the training you received in-home to real-world situations.

What will my dog learn?

You and your trainer will set realistic training goals for your team. These often include:

  • Aggression and reactivity work
  • Addressing fear/anxiety at the root
  • Puppy training
  • Obedience work
  • Calming and confidence work

What will I learn?

You will learn how to interact with your dog in a way that they value and understand in order to facilitate effective learning and bring you and your dog closer than ever before.

Group Classes

Group classes are an excellent opportunity to achieve a high level of socialization and focus in your dog, regardless of their age or prior training. We play lots of games, run fun and enriching drills, and have a blast doing it! Our Group Class Package earns your ticket to four, one hour long sessions that are normally facilitated in Unity Park unless stated otherwise by your trainer.

We offer two classes weekly: Beginner and Advanced.

Beginner is suitable for dog/handler teams that are new to training, as well as puppies.

Advanced is suitable for teams that already have a foundation in training, and want to continue to build on what they have already achieved.

Client Testimonials

Stephanie M.

Jordan is amazing, knowledgeable and helped me take control. When summer came and I had to bring my elementary-aged daughters along, she didn’t bat an eye and included them and taught them how to work with our puppy too. I can’t say enough great things about this experience!

When we got there, our 6 month old lab was totally out of control (the sweetest boy but all puppy and wild) and I didn’t think 4 sessions would do much. She blew my mind. After only 3 sessions, we were able to take our boy on a hike, on a very busy trail, 2 hours away and he did AMAZING! Having a well-trained dog has made everyone, including Banks, happier. We have each bonded with him in a new way because he knows and understands boundaries now. If you are on the fence about this purchase, DO IT!

Kristen D.

I brought my Klee Kai, Stormy, to lessons with Jordan. She is absolutely wonderful! My main priority was potty training tips, however, Jordan immediately identified that Stormy was unusually anxious (which I did not pick up on at all) and had us start with confidence building exercises. Amazingly, so many other things just fell into place and Stormy and I really bonded through the training process. Jordan took the time to understand what my priorities were and balance them with the most important things for the wellbeing of my pup. We are both much happier now and I am so proud of my little confident pup!

Sarabeth W.

Jordan was an amazing trainer. She was able to train our dog and people aggressive dog to no longer react to dogs and people. Highly recommend her and this company.
